More Math Behind the 16:9 “iPhone 5”
Taking John Gruber’s math about the new iPhone a step further, we can use the 1136 number as the base instead. For the sake of example, we’re going to use a 1080p video clip and reduce it down to the “iPhone 5” size.
( 1136 / 1920 ) * 1080 = 639
Might as well stretch the video to 1136x640 at that point.
But, while the 1136 number puts the iPhone display at the closest possible to 4”, 1138 makes more sense for the 16:9 ratio.
( 1138 / 1920 ) * 1080 = 640.125
We will see soon enough.
Just finished the second update to the official OpenNotifier Premium Pack. 1.2 includes thirteen new icons. It should be in Cydia this weekend.
Skipping Spaces in Lion.
Here are two icons I remade for myself and am deciding to share. The xScope was done from scratch. Didn’t like the original; wasn’t iOS-ified enough. I wanted a new Twitter icon and used this as inspiration (credits to him).
Icons for Legacy, Retina, and iPad are included.
The iOS Google+ icon (along with the app itself) is fairly unappealing. I took it upon myself to make another version that’s more pleasing to the eye and decided to share.
I put this under concepts because I’d love to see the hardware integrated into the actual door so that the butt-ugly mechanism isn’t visible. Very cool, indeed.

There’s a great story about Pablo Picasso. Some guy told Picasso he’d pay him to draw a picture on a napkin. Picasso whipped out a pen and banged out a sketch, handed it to the guy, and said, “One million dollars, please.” “A million dollars?” the guy exclaimed. “That only took you thirty seconds!” “Yes,” said Picasso. “But it took me fifty years to learn how to draw that in thirty seconds.”
Unknown“Imagine there is a bank account that credits your account each morning with $86,400. It carries over no balance from day to day. Every evening the bank deletes whatever part of the balance you failed to use during the day. What would you do? Draw out every cent, of course? Each of us have such a bank. Its name is time. Every morning, it credits you with 86,400 seconds. Every night, it writes off as lost, whatever of this you have failed to invest to a good purpose. It carries over no balance. It allows no over draft. Each day it opens a new account for you. Each night it burns the remains of the day. If you fail to use the day’s deposits, the loss is yours. There is no drawing against “tomorrow.” You must live in the present on today’s deposits. Invest it so as to get from the utmost health, happiness and success. The clock is running. Make the most of today.”
So, in early May, I released a slight modification of the Tumblr iOS app (http://cmcn.co/956F). They recently launched the next major version, and my modification was nullified. Considering how great the update looks, I just updated the icon I made originally in order to better match this version. Enjoy!
